Nikolai Putilin

For the baritone Nikolai Putilin Russian romantic opera no longer holds any secrets. Since 1992 Nikolai has been a permanent member of the company of the renowned Mariinski Theatre in St Petersburg, with which he has made many recordings (The Queen of Spades, Sadko, Iolanthe, Mazeppa, Prince Igor and Boris Godunov) in the already equally famous series of Russian operas brought out by Philips Classics with maestro Valery Gergiev. Under Gergiev he sang Mazeppa in the Metropolitan’s new 2006 production. The man who sang the definitive recording of Mazeppa is treading the boards at the Flanders Opera!
