Taichi Sakai

Dancer

The Japanese Taichi Sakai was born in Germany but moved to Antwerp to perfect his skills as a dancer. He trained at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp. Immediately after graduating in 2019, he started his career with the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen company. In the 2021-2022 season he danced in Giselle by Akram Khan and the world premiering creations Palmos by Andonis Foniadakis and Futur proche by Jan Martens. In 2022, Sakai also performed at the Antwerp Spring Festival, where he created a solo in the performance Deus Universalis, a composition by Jean Delouvroy. In 2023 he danced in Creature, a choreography by Akram Khan, One Flat Thing, reproduced by William Forsythe and Ten Duets on a Theme of Rescue by Crystal Pite, amongst others.
