As part of the Opera21 festival

Revelations is a multimedia project that takes as starting point the impressive Visions of the 13th century poet and mystic Hadewijch d'Anvers, without question one of the most astonishing texts from our history of letters.
In the tradition of the mediaeval Christian love mysticism, in her Visions Hadewijch describes an ecstatic love relationship with the divine Other. Visionary love poetry that points the way to a higher plane, with passion as the key.

In Revelations an individual confronts a chorus in a performance that looks for the power of visionary imagination and ecstasy in a contemporary context. Composer Wim Henderickx has created in Revelations a wordless new work in which the inspiration of mediaeval and Renaissance music for female voices is in evidence. The HERMES ensemble and the electronic music of Jorrit Tamminga are given a prime role. After Void and De koningin zonder land, Henderickx is once again collaborating with director Wouter Van Looy, who creates for Revelations an intangible installation out of light and smoke in which the images of video artist Kurt d’Haeseleer take centre stage.
