OPEN HOUSE DAY

On Saturday 5 September, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen will celebrate the start of the new cultural season with a festive open day at the Queen Elisabeth Hall and Antwerp Opera. Both venues, on Astridplein and Operaplein, will throw their doors wide open to young and young-at-heart alike. Throughout the day, you can enjoy free activities, open rehearsals, musical yoga sessions, a glimpse behind the scenes, and opportunities to meet musicians, both inside the venues and on the squares. The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra will round off the day with a free grand symphonic concert on the stage of the Queen Elisabeth Hall.

• 13.00 – 14.00 uur | Open rehearsal with Antwerp Symphony Orchestra: Go behind the scenes and watch the orchestra at work during an open rehearsal (Queen Elisabeth Hall)
• 13.00 & 15.00 uur | Dance workshops with Zoë Demoustier: Immerse yourself in the visual language of the Flemish Wave (Opera Antwerp, limited capacity; reservations can only be made on site)
• 14.00 – 17.00 uur | Guided tours of the Queen Elisabeth Hall: Explore the auditorium and backstage areas on a guided tour, with a few musical surprises along the way (Queen Elisabeth Hall)
• 14.30 – 17.30 uur | Open rehearsal of De Materie: Experience the virtuosity of the orchestra and cast during an open rehearsal of this rarely performed opera (Opera Antwerp, drop in at any time | break from 4.00 to 4.30 uur)
• 14.30, 15.30 & 16.30 uur | Yoga with live soundscapes: Unwind during a yoga session accompanied live by percussionists (Queen Elisabeth Hall)

A festive finale

• 18.00 – 19.00 uur | Free Antwerp Symphony Orchestra concert: End the day on a high note with a captivating symphonic concert paying tribute to Toots Thielemans, who passed away ten years ago.
