Alain Honorez

Alain Honorez studied at the Royal Ballet School Antwerp and started his professional career with the Royal Ballet of Flanders in 1996 as a member of the corps de ballet. A year later he was promoted to half soloist after his performance of Mercutio in André Prokovsky’s version of Romeo and Juliet. He became soloist in 1999, first soloist in 2001 and eventually became principal in 2004. Alain worked with well-known choreographers like Marcia Haydée, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, William Forsythe, David Dawson, Nicolo Fonte, Jiří Kylián, Christian Spuck, Jorma Elo, Douglas Lee, Jean-Christophe Maillot, Danny Rosseel, Mauricio Wainrot, Xin Peng Wang, Christopher d’Amboise and many others and danced leading roles in classical, neoclassical and modern pieces.
Marcia Haydée chose him in 2006 for the role of Carabosse in her version of The Sleeping Beauty, which brought him to cities like Santiago de Chile and Perth, Australia. When Haydée made a version of Swan Lake (2009) for the Royal Ballet of Flanders, she chose Alain for the role of Rothbart.
In june 2012, Alain said goodbye as a fixed member of the Royal Ballet of Flanders and became a freelance dancer and teacher. He received the Mathilde Schroyens dance prize in 2008, got nominated for ‘best male dancer’ Prix Benois de la Danse in 2009 and received the golden label (career prize) from Klassiek Centraal in 2012.
In 2013 Alain worked temporarily as ballet master with the Royal Ballet of Flanders for Wayne McGregor’s Infra and since then, the company has often invited him as a guest dancer for pieces like Christian Spuck’s The Return of Ulysses, Nicolo Fonte’s Made Man and Marcia Haydée’s Sleeping Beauty. For the new version of The Nutcracker by Demis Volpi, he was asked for the part of Drosselmeyer.
In the summer of 2015, Alain danced at the International Ballet Gala of Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The following year he was once again asked to dance in Santiago de Chile, this time in the role of Bernarda in the new version of The House of Bernarda Alba choreographed by Jaime Pinto. At the 65 year jubileum gala of the Royal Ballet School he danced Absolutio (solo), a choreography by Altea Nuñez. Currently Alain is again invited as a guest artist with the Royal Ballet of Flanders, this time for Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Requiem.
