Ute Haferburg

The German dramaturge Ute Haferburg studied philosophy, musicology and theater science at the University of Frankfurt. Since 1992 she worked as a playwright in the theater of such Darmstadt and Basel. She worked with directors like Nigel Lowery (Hänsel und Gretel, La Cenerentola, Lohengrin, Idomeneo), Christoph Marthaler (20th Century Blues, invited to the "Theater Treffen Berlin 2001), Andreas Homoki and many others. She wrote articles programbooks and several other publications and gave lectures and seminars at the University of Basel, the ZHAW School of Management in Zurich and the Institute of Music in Karlsruhe (Chair dramaturgy). In 2002 she founded together with Desiree Meiser a center for contemporary music "Gare du Nord" which she also general and artistic director. At this center she has remained as dramaturge to work, most recently for the world premiere of Aunt Hänsi. Ein Jenseitsreigen of Mela Hans Meier (invited to the Festival of Mexico City and the Maerz Musik Festival in Berlin in 2007). In 2007 she worked as a dramaturge in the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, with a production of Piazzola's Maria de Buenos Aires with the famous fado singer Misia(production Desiree Meiser). From season 2008-09 she was chief dramaturg at Flanders Opera, where she was a dramaturge for the productions of Die Schöpfung, Candide en The Rage of Life. From the 2010-11 season, she will be intendant of the Theater Chur in Switzerland. At Vlaamse Opera she will be succeeded by Luc Joosten.
