Tragedy of a Friendship
Moritz Eggert, Jan Fabre & Stefan Hertmans
In 2013, it will be 200 years since Richard Wagner was born: an ideal time to turn the spotlight on this legendary composer. The Flanders Opera invited Jan Fabre to make a musical theatre creation on the subject of Wagner, who is one of his favourite artistic figures. He was inspired by Wagner's 13 operas and the fascinating but tragic association between Wagner and Nietzsche, which ended in a feud.
In collaboration with the writer and Nietzsche expert Stefan Hertmans and the German composer Moritz Eggert, the result is an exciting new work of theatre.
Coproduction Troubleyn/Jan Fabre, Concertgebouw Brugge, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Opéra de Lille & Wagner Genèva Festival.
