Royal Ballet Flanders is bringing the French choreographer Benjamin Millepied, one of the most renowned contemporary ballet choreographers, to Belgium for the first time. He will be creating his first full-length production based on work by Johann Sebastian Bach. It promises to be a unique, abstract yet intensely emotional evening of ballet, created by one of the most innovative ballet choreographers of the moment.

For his new creation, which has the working title of Bach Studies, Benjamin Millepied will be drawing inspiration from the musical world of Johann Sebastian Bach. Inspired by Bach's complex rhythms, often with roots in baroque dance rhythms, Millepied has set himself the challenge of exploring Bach's compositional techniques and translating them into a physical reality. The movement will be inspired by Millepied's own emotional reaction to the music, with the choreography rooted in two iconic works by Bach, Partita No. 2 and Passacaglia for Organ.

The Opera Vlaanderen Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Inbal, will provide support for the iconic parts for solo violin and organ.
