Mozart knows better than anyone how to sing about love, and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker knows how to dance love.

Thirty years after the creation of Mozart / Concert Arias (1992) at the Avignon festival, the dancers of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen are offering this enchanting performance. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, associate artist of OBV starting from the 2022-23 season, provides a choreography that stirs the senses. Declarations of love and power games between loved ones alternate in virtuoso style with constantly forming new alliances between singing and dance. The arias that Mozart wrote as independent concert works function as mini operas that show all the gradations of love, from coquettish and lascivious to helpless and bittersweet. Shifting encounters are only the stepping stone to a deeper theme, that of 'saying goodbye to each other, leaving each other' and 'the unity between men and women despite the separation, the physical absence' (De Keersmaeker). Nowhere does the dance illustrate the arias, but in its own way unfurls the existential and transcendent force of Mozart's music.

2 hours and 40 minutes (incl intermission)

Free introduction 45 minutes before the start of the performance and a free talk after the performance on Sunday 26 June.
