THE MAKING OF BERLIN
NTGent
After a performance of Zvizdal during the Berliner Festspiele, the creators of BERLIN met a spry elderly German. They struck up a conversation and were captivated by his unlikely life journey.
After several discussions and weeks later, they decided to dedicate the final part of their Holocene cycle, in which they create city portraits, to him. The making of Berlin is a portrait of a city, built around the exceptional story of a Berliner who worked as an orchestra director at the Berliner Philharmoniker. A man who would love to go back in time to complete an unfinished chapter of his life. BERLIN commits itself, with the help of the Symphonic Orchestra of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen led by Alejo Pérez, radio station Klara, and German actor Martin Wuttke, to assist the man in realizing his dream. Along the way, however, they find cracks in his story, putting the entire project in jeopardy.
