In conversation with Florentina Holzinger

With SANCTA, Florentina Holzinger brings her uncompromising theatrical language to the opera stage — raw, feminist, and impossible to ignore.
The Austrian artist Florentina Holzinger is a phenomenon in the performing arts. Her boundary-pushing productions have a high entertainment value, blending canonical works with elements of popular culture. Performers from various underground scenes push their (naked) bodies to the limit to confront audiences with desire and pleasure, pain and power. Her works consistently cast a feminist light on repertoire and social norms.
In SANCTA, she does so for the very first time through an opera: Sancta Susanna by composer Paul Hindemith. And who better than Florentina Holzinger herself to introduce us to her unique methods and theatrical language? We sit down with her to explore her sensational SANCTA, which will premiere at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen this April.
