Giselle
Akram Khan
Following the powerful and remarkable Kaash, Giselle is the second work that the British-Bengali choreographer Akram Khan is presenting with Royal Ballet Flanders. Giselle is his first full-length ballet and at the premiere, it was enthusiastically received by audiences and hailed by critics as a masterpiece for the 21st century.
Giselle is an intelligent contemporary retelling of the story and a visual spectacle with sets and costumes by Oscar winner Tim Yip. The original score by Adolphe Adam was adapted by the contemporary composer Vincenzo Lamagna and thus, the music is also given a contemporary translation.
The performances on October 16, 19 & 24 (Ghent) and November 1, 2, 3, 4 & 8 (Antwerp) are accompanied by a live orchestra.
Akram Khan’s Giselle was originally produced by English National Ballet and co-produced by Sadler’s Wells, London and Manchester International Festival.
