The making of Berlin
Een hommage aan Opera Gent

'A genious theatre film'
The making of Berlin is a portrait of a city, built around the exceptional story of Friedrich Mohr, who worked as an orchestra director (or roadie) at the Berliner Philharmoniker during WWII. At the end of World War II, the conductor of the Philharmonic decided to perform Siegfried's Funeral March from Wagner's Götterdämmerung one more time and broadcast it live on German state radio. That plan failed due to continuous bombardments and malfunctioning (recording) technology. 75 years later, it is Friedrich Mohr's ultimate wish to perform that technical feat as initially planned. Theatre group BERLIN supports him and calls on the help of radio station Klara, the orchestra of OBV in Opera Ghent and the German actor Martin Wuttke, known from Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. The making of Berlin is a 'brilliant theatre film' (De Standaard) that is performed with live horn music and has been praised far beyond the country's borders. As a tribute to Opera Ghent, we are reviving the ingenious performance before the doors close for a period of renovations.
