Opera Ghent won’t let you go.
Wed, May 7, 2025

Opera Ghent is closing its doors for a few years starting January 2026. Until then, you’re more than welcome to attend a wide range of performances. Between September and December, you can experience Parsifal, Lucia di Lammermoor, Choreolab / What You Are About To See, Grand Finale, Don Giovanni, The Making of Berlin, and aperitif concerts at Opera Ghent.
After that, you can continue to enjoy opera, ballet, concerts, and musical theatre at alternative venues in and around Ghent. We won’t let our loyal audience go.
GOING OUT IN STYLE
TOURS OF OPERA GHENT
Before the renovation works begin, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take one last look behind the scenes at Opera Ghent. We’re offering additional weekend tours where you can learn more about our future plans. Or would you prefer to explore the backstage area one more time? That’s possible too—join a post-performance tour (p.159).
DON GIOVANNI IN HOLIDAY SPIRIT
The extended run of Don Giovanni (Mozart, directed by Tom Goossens) in December will culminate in a festive New Year’s Eve dinner at Opera Ghent on December 31, 2025.
THE MAKING OF BERLIN
For true Opera Ghent fans, we’ll bring back the acclaimed production The Making of Berlin for two final performances in the first week of January 2026—a final treat in which the building itself takes center stage.
OBV CONTINUES TO PERFORM IN GHENT
BALLET AT CAPITOLE GENT
After the temporary closure of Opera Ghent, we’ll present two ballet productions in spring 2026 at Capitole Gent: Rites (Bolero X, La Valse, Le Sacre du printemps) and OPUS.
CONCERTS AT DE BIJLOKE AND MIRY CONCERT HALL
We’ll host symphonic concerts and concertante operas at Muziekcentrum De Bijloke. The second part of our much-loved aperitif concerts will take place starting in spring at the charming MIRY Concert Hall, part of the Conservatory next to St Bavo’s Cathedral.
MUSICAL THEATRE AT NTGENT
With our “Vonk” programme, we’ll settle into NTGent, featuring the performance a rite of spring by Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe and Lander Gyselinck.
WILL YOU TRAVEL WITH US?
EXTENDED RUN OF NABUCCO IN ANTWERP
We’ve scheduled additional performances of the opera Nabucco (Verdi, directed by Christiane Jatahy) in Antwerp, ensuring that our audience from Ghent has every opportunity to attend this production.
DISCOUNTED RATES AT OPERA ANTWERP
Subscribers to Opera Ghent receive a 15% discount on all performances at Opera Antwerp. You can also take advantage of the Flex formula, which makes it easy to combine performances in both Ghent and Antwerp (p.139).
WELCOME TO BRUGES!
Starting spring 2026, we’ll present a major production each season at our partners’ venue, Concertgebouw Brugge. For the 2025/26 season, that’s Carmen, Bizet’s beloved opera, directed by Wim Vandekeybus.
BIENVENUE À LILLE!
Combine a trip to the northern French city of Lille with an evening of opera. Opéra de Lille will present our acclaimed production The Makropulos Affair, directed by Kornél Mundruczó, starting 5 February. Tickets for all performances at Opéra de Lille are available at a discounted rate for OBV subscribers. Want to join us on the journey? You can! Opera Ballet Vlaanderen is organising a group bus trip from Ghent to Lille on 14 February to attend The Makropulos Affair, including a guided tour of Opéra de Lille (exclusively for subscribers). Performances of The Makropulos Affair in Lille will have surtitles in both French and Dutch.
HOP ON THE OBV BUS AND EXPERIENCE MORE
Enjoy a performance on the road without worrying about transport. The OBV bus takes you comfortably from Opera Ghent to Opera Antwerp or from Opera Ghent to Concertgebouw Brugge and back again. On the way, one of our dramaturges will guide you into the world of the performance.
You’ll arrive well in advance, giving you time to enjoy a bite to eat before the show begins. Priority is given to Friends and subscribers of OBV.
