Don Giovanni's dream team

Tom Goossens, who made his OBV debut in 2019 with the family show Banket! (based on Verdi's Macbeth), is responsible for the direction. He subsequently directed Kurt Weill's Der Jasager (2019), Ravel's L'Heure espagnole (2021) and his first large-scale opera production, Le nozze di Figaro (2023). The latter production in particular was a favourite with audiences and was shown to great acclaim on the big screen at Antwerp's Sint-Jansplein in 2024 during the free Klassiek op het plein festival.
Sammy Van den Heuvel and Femke Gyselinck are responsible for the scenography and choreography for Don Giovanni respectively, having already formed a tandem in 2022 for Szenen aus Goethes Faust, directed by Julian Rosefeldt. Sammy Van den Heuvel also designed the doors and hatches scenography for Le nozze di Figaro, directed by Tom Goossens, and the imposing, crisp white set for Wozzeck, which Johan Simons directed at OBV in 2025.
None other than Italian conductor Francesco Corti (photo above) will lead the Symphony Orchestra Opera Ballet Vlaanderen through this score full of sparkling hits. Corti previously demonstrated his clear understanding of Mozart's music in Mozart / Concert Arias. Since then, he has been working regularly behind the scenes with our musicians to further develop the orchestra's stylistic agility.
We previously saw Austrian baritone Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger in Die Fledermaus and Iphigénie en Tauride, and he will be alternating the role of Don Giovanni with Madagascan baritone Michael Arivony. Donna Anna is played by two debutants at our theatre: Swiss soprano Marie Lys, who has specialised in the Mozart repertoire in recent years, and Ukrainian-German soprano Kateryna Kasper. The Italian sopranos Arianna Venditelli and Alessia Panza will perform Donna Elvira. The Belgian tenor Reinoud van Mechelen needs little introduction and was last seen with us in Iphigénie en Tauride. He will now alternate the role of Don Ottavio with the Croatian tenor Emanuel Tomljenovic, who recently appeared with us in Parsifal and Lucia di Lammermoor. The young British bass Edwin Kaye will be Il Commendatore. Leporello will be played by either the Scottish Michael Mofidian or the New Zealand bass-baritone Samson Setu. American bass-baritone Justin Hopkins, once a member of our young ensemble, returns to our house as Masetto. Finally, Zerlina will be played by Japanese soprano Sawako Kayaki, a member of our young ensemble, or German Katharina Ruckgaber.
